The Committee

Darin Addison
You might remember Darin Addison from hosting such radio shows as The Parallel Universe and The Eclectic Circus on 94.9 CHRW. He has over 12 years experience in the music industry and has worked with independent and major label artists such as The Ashgrove, Sara Craig, The Pursuit of Happiness, and Crash Test Dummies. More recently, Darin has managed publicity efforts for LOLA Fest 2008 and 2009, indie-folk orchestra Olenka and The Autumn Lovers, and The Jack Richardson Music Awards. Darin has also volunteered in a number of capacities with “The Jacks” since their inception.

Paul Breau
Paul was born and raised in London, attended Fanshawe in 1976/77, enrolled in the Television Broadcasting course. He is founding member of the Great Lakes Blues Society, currently holding the chair of Production Director on the executive committee. Music has always been an important aspect of Paul’s life, and he looks upon his involvement with the blues society, and the Jack Richardson as a small way to help give back to his community.

Andrea Dunn
Andrea Dunn has been with FM96 since 2004. She is the host of the #1 rated Afternoon Drive show in the city. Andrea has interviewed many artists including Chris Cornell, Perry Farrell, Slash, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Tom Morello, Linkin Park among other great bands. She is also the Host/Producer/Program Director for the FM96 Indie show, which highlights local artists. Andrea has over 10 years experience in broadcasting and is a graduate of Fanshawe College. She is very community minded and is involved with many local charities including the CCFC. She’s proud to be involved with the Jack Richardson Music Awards this year.

Will Haas
Will Haas is a record producer and recording engineer who has owned and operated Willyboy Recordings, a professional recording studio in London, for over ten years. Will began his musical career as a bass player in the local music scene and now spends his time producing music. Willyboy Recordings, winner of the 2009 JRMA recording studio category, is a staple facility for recording a wide range of music in and around London. Will produced the not-for-profit 2009 JRMA CD which showcased ten of the 2009 JRMA winners. Will is proud to be a part of the JRMA committee and is working hard as producer of the 2010 awards show.

Johann Kinting
Johann is the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the London Musicians’ Association. He currently volunteers on the Executive Board of the Canadian Conference of Musicians and is past president of the Aeolian Hall Musical Arts Association. He has volunteered for the past six years on the JRMA committee and facilitates the co-sponsorship funding for all of JRMA’s performing musicians through generous support of the Music Performance Fund, New York, NY. He is currently organizing the JRMA seminars with Robert Breen and is a member of the nominations academy. Johann has worked as a full time musician both locally and throughout Canada with appearances on Local Television, CBC and as a guitar instructor for UWO, the City of London, and privately for many years.

Patrick Maloney
Patrick Maloney is a graduate of Fanshawe’s Music Industry Arts Program, and now works for the Fanshawe Student Union as Entertainment Programmer. He has a decade of experience booking and developing independent bands.

Catherine McInnes
Catherine McInnes is highly active in the London music scene as a recording artist, choral arranger, jazz singer, contemporary singer-songwriter, and music teacher. Remarkably, Catherine finds creative pleasure in organizing concerts and large scale events. Through her work as volunteer Artistic Director of Home County Folk Festival she is committed to showcasing London musicians at the festival, and to supporting the JRMAs in honouring the work of London area musicians.

Brian Mortimer
Brian Mortimer is a partner in Karma Productions which is a company that produces events, festivals, shows and generally promotes music. This has been my personal passion for 33 years during which time I owned 17 different Bars and Restaurants most of which featured live music. I have been blessed to have met wonderful friends and partnerships along the way that all help with bettering the music scene. Karma is very happy to participate on the JRMA committee to help produce this wonderful recognition for musical talent and ability. Music works better when done cooperatively.....that’s karma.

Jenny Nauta
Jenny Nauta is an active well-known singer, songwriter, arranger and music consultant with roots steeped in traditional jazz, Latin, pop and classical. She is a founding member and leader of recording artists and award-winning vocal jazz group AFTER FOUR. Jenny is an Associate Teacher and graduate of Conservatory Canada (formerly the Western Conservatory of Music) and teaches both classical and contemporary jazz voice and piano at Aeolian Hall and in her home studio. She is also a singer/soloist and choral arranger with London Pro Musica Choir and eight-year member of their executive board; and is the co-executive Producer of their latest CD Songs of the Land. She also sings in the new London Philharmonic Chorus with Orchestra London. Jenny is pleased to be a volunteer member on the JRMA board celebrating and honouring the rich musical community in London and region.

Cam Paton
Cam has resided in London for over thirty years and during that time has been a faithful supporter of the local rock, roots and blues concert and festival scene. Not a musician nor industry insider, he brings the audience’s point of view to the JRMA.

James Stewart Reaney
James Reaney has covered everything from operas to Neil Young concerts to baseball’s World Series in more than 25 years at The London Free Press and, more recently, for lfpress.com along with the newspaper.

In recent years, he has enjoyed the chance to concentrate on London arts & entertainment and Forest City lore. He often writes about local history and unsung heroes in his My London column on Thursdays and has used those columns for talks at the London & Middlesex Historical Society and elsewhere. He writes an entertainment column on Saturdays.

He has also appeared in Reaney’s Pick, a weekly series of lfpress.com videos covering the arts and uses his blog at www.lfpress.com/blogs/brandnewblog to discuss the local arts scene. He can be followed on Twitter.

James is a member of the Jack Richardson Music Awards steering committee, helping to bring about an annual gala and other free events in London’s only not-for-profit recognition of musical excellence. He is also a vice-chair with the London Heritage Council, a city hall-tied organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion and celebration of local heritage resources and activities in London.

Born in Winnipeg, James grew up in London during the amazing 1960s, but has come to understand that it was just one creative decade in a city blessed with constant artistic excitement.

Grant Stein
Grant Stein first moved to London from Ottawa in 1988 to attend Fanshawe College’s Radio Broadcasting Program. He moved to Toronto where he became Music Director at Light 97.3 and returned to London in 1995 to work at FM96 in London, the Hawk (while it was in St. Thomas) and then back to London as MD and Assistant Program Director of FM96. In 1998 he became MD for what eventually became the London Corus Group of stations which included FM96, The Hawk, Energy and AM980. In 2002 he “left” commercial radio and became Program Director at 94.9 CHRW, London’s Campus and Community Station. Grant has been Station Manager of 94.9 CHRW and tvWestern.ca at the University of Western Ontario since 2004. Check ’em out at CHRWRadio.com and tvWestern.ca!

John b. Young (Chair)
John b. Young began his music career working/touring on the road, then moving to Vancouver with the Winnipeg band “Brave Belt,” who became the Canadian legends “Bachman, Turner Overdrive.”

He left the band after the first album in the mid-70’s to attend the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College. Upon graduation John b. began working in the London music scene as an agent with BBR Agency booking high school and college one nighters plus local and regional clubs.

He returned to Fanshawe College in 1981 to become the first full-time entertainment programmer hired by the Fanshawe Student Union and has booked/worked with a wide range of local and national artist in his career at the campus, presenting artists in a variety of venues.

John b. has continually supported the local music scene and though his responsibilities have changed over the years. He feels it is important to expose to each generation of students... the unique experience of live music. John b. has also had the opportunity to meet and work with Jack Richardson, who began teaching at Fanshawe in the late ’80s.

John b. has supported the JRMA’s since its inception, publishing with the financing of the FSU a program for each awards show.

In 2006, he was asked to join the JRMA steering committee and is currently filling the role as chair of this committee. His goals are to elevate the award status by taking it from a popularity contest voting system to an academy membership made up of local music industry patrons and musicians, involve the youth of the community, improve the electronic communications and diversify the membership of the steering committee/volunteer base. He realizes this cannot be done in a vacuum, but with a group of like minded volunteers working together as a team for these goals.

Mario Circelli (Past Chair and Co-Founder)
Mario Circelli is a broadcast journalist, documentary filmmaker and musician. He has been involved with the local music scene since 1981 playing in a variety of bands before switching to behind-the-scenes work as an audio engineer and producer.

In addition to several student films his documentary credits include, “In Our Own Words” chronicling the history of Italians in London and “Stinkin’ Out the Joint”, the history of London’s punk rock music scene.

His career in journalism began in 1988 starting off as a radio reporter and later General Manager of CHRW radio and TV Western before moving to television news. He also operates a marketing and communications consultancy and currently works in communications for Canada Post.

Ian Gifford - member emeritus
Ian Gifford has been involved in music for over 26 years in many capacities including being a bassist, guitarist, drummer and vocalist. Over the last few years Ian has produced the London Music Awards, MC’d for the Home County Folk Festival, mixed hundreds of bands and performed with a half dozen different groups ranging from folk to jazz. Ian has also been involved in film and theatre as an actor, composer and sound designer. Ian is also a former volunteer radio show host at 94.9 CHRW.
