Nomination Procedures

Procedures for Nomination Chairs
Mission:
To establish a final list of nominees in each of the JRMA 19 music and industry categories. The JRMA Committee will appoint individuals to act as chair of each musical or industry category. That individual will then establish a selection committee with advisement from the committee. The chair will ultimately present this list of nominees to Jenny Nauta the 2010 JRMA Nomination Committee Chairperson by February 19, 2010.

Duties of the Nomination Chair

Group formation

1. Establish a small group of London and surrounding area individuals (minimum 3 to a maximum of 6) that will meet either on line, email or in person to discuss possible nominees in their specific category or categories, and/or chairs can ask each committee member to submit a list independently.

2. The nomination chair will be responsible to inform Jenny Nauta, the JRMA committee member in charge of nominations, of all individuals that participated in their selection committee (their membership is confidential), only the nomination chairs names may be made public.

3. Committee membership should be individuals associated with and knowledgeable in the respective categories and the chair will seek to select a diverse group of people.

4. The past winner of any category will be invited to participate in this committee. According to our regulations, they are ineligible to be nominated in the category in which they were the previous year’s winner.

Nomination direction

5. Each nominee should be based in the London or surrounding area, and for the artist awards, they must have performed at a minimum of one public London or surrounding area event in the calendar year beginning April 1, 2009 - January 31, 2010.

6. The nominating committee has to have a clear majority on all of the submitted nominees in their respective categories; this final list of six nominees and two alternatives (if possible) should be completed by February 19, 2010 and submitted to the Jenny Nauta at gozo@execulink.com

7. The final number of nominees in each category can be no less than four and no more than six nominees, but we ask you to send in eight nominees in case of duplication, ineligibility or other conflict. We urge the committee to take into account this year’s specific performances and/or career milestones when choosing the nominees.

8. There are unique situations in each category; the JRMA empowers the committee to come up with an independent list of nominees. Each committee is follow the recommended process, but may also add their own qualifications as agreed upon by the group.

9. The JRMA Committee has decided that no single artist should be nominated in more than one category. Jenny Nauta, will contact any artist that is nominated in multiple categories to allow them to establish which nomination they would prefer to stand in for this year. This is limited to the 19 chaired categories but does not affect any nominations in Fan Favorites. It is also an additional reason for the two alternates in each category.

Submission of Nominees

The JRMA Board reserves the right to modify or change the nominees list as presented. They will be responsible to contact the Nomination Chair with an explanation on these changes to the respective nomination chair. Reasons could be that an artist was nominated in more than one category, they did not perform in the calendar year in London, their residence is not in the London or surrounding area, etc.

Recommended Process

1. Chair contacts their committee members and those members respond to the chair with a list of deserving individuals or groups they believe should be nominated. Chair checks to see that they meet the criteria as candidates. (e.g. did they perform in the past year, are they from London, do the artists fit the description of the category?)

2. The chair compiles the long list of nominees and sends it out to all of the committee members. Then committee members send back their top eight choices in descending order.

3. The Chair then tallies the voting process with the number one pick receiving 10 points and the number eight pick receiving 2 points. This calculation should result in a list of the top 6 nominees with two alternatives. If there is a tie another communication should be sent to the committee members with just the nominations that were tied and another vote to establish the final spots.

4. The final six nominees plus the two extras should then be sent to Jenny Nauta, the JRMA Committee member who is in charge of the nomination process. Please include email and phone information for all nominees.

5. This completes the duties of the chair.

Thanks for being involved with this process.

History
The JRMA has established 19 categories that allow for Academy voting, these represent the majority of musical and all of the industry awards. After the nominations have been posted on our website then approved JRMA Academy members will be sent a ballot to vote on any of the categories that they feel comfortable voting. The Academy voting membership is defined by individual(s) that have been accepted into the JRMA voting process, knowledgeable and passionate about specific categories and feel comfortably knowledgeable to vote in other categories of their choosing. This process allows the JRMA Committee has adopted this procedure to allow for transparency in the process, the nominees are decided upon by an independent committee, the voting is done by approved members, no fee to become a member just a short information application that determines you are involved in the London music scene or industry. Membership is not allowed for just fans, we are trying desperately to bring legitimacy to these awards by peers and industry members determining the winners in each category.
